Early Decision Vs. Regular Decision Acceptance Rate Chart

At the recent NACAC conference in San Diego a chart was presented that was developed by two Independent Counselors (Jennie Kent & Jeff Levy) which showed students acceptance rates at various colleges based on when they applied. It presents a good picture of how applying early can help a student get into their top school choice. As an example, Dartmouth is a highly selective college and in looking at the chart 28% of students who applied early were accepted while only 9.9% of students who applied regular decision were accepted. In evaluating the data you can counsel your students on the best course of action for their target schools. Some schools have similar acceptance rates for early decision and regular decision while others show that applying early can help better your students chances of getting into their target school.
